A beautiful pair of shoes - in silk, satin or soft white leather - are an integral part of your bridal attire. Shoes, as we all know, make the outfit.

It's important to buy the shoes before you buy the dress. Ideally, you should try the dress on while wearing your wedding shoes. The shoes can change the way the dress hangs - in particular the hem. It can mean the difference between a smooth hem line and one which dips in the front or back.

If the timing doesn't work out, if you don't have the shoes when you buy the dress, try the dress on with heels the height you think you want. Then purchase shoes of the same height. Then try the dress on again in plenty of time to have the hem altered if necessary. You will want to check how the dress fits around the hips, too, and the small of your back. You don't want a different heel height causing the fabric to bulge.

If you are having the dress made or professionally altered for you, do wear your wedding shoes at the fittings.
